ST. LOUIS NATIVE JIM FARRELL DIES AT 48
OKLAHOMA CITY – Jim Farrell, 48, a native of St. Louis, MO, passed away suddenly Wednesday, January 12, at his home in Edmond, OK, which is located north of Oklahoma City.
A bachelor, Farrell for the past eight years served as the membership services director for the Amateur Softball Association of America, the national governing body of softball in the United States. Farrell was named to that position in June of 1991 after serving six years as Metro St. Louis ASA commissioner while he was employed for the St. Louis Parks and Recreation Department. He worked for the St. Louis Parks and Recreation Department for 20 years.
Besides promoting and developing softball in St. Louis, Farrell was active in the St. Louis Amateur Boxing Association and was honored by the Association prior to moving to Oklahoma City. Farrell also was inducted into the St. Louis ASA Hall of Fame in 1996 and served as the MC for the induction ceremonies each year.
"We have lost a valued member of our national staff, "said Ron Radigonda, ASA executive director." Jim loved the ASA and working at this office. He will be missed by many, many people."
The youngest of nine children, Farrell is survived by six sisters and a brother. Another brother is deceased. Services for Farrell will be Monday, January 17, from 2-9 p.m. at the Kutis Funeral Home, 2906 Gravios Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63118 with a mass Tuesday 10 a.m. at Saint Pius V Catholic Church, 3400 S.
