Frequently Asked Questions

What will be the format for pool play?
Ans.
Pools will consist of either 3 or 4 teams. Each team will play 2 games in pool play.  In the four (4) team pool the winners of the first two games play each other for first and second and losers play each other for third and fourth. In a three (3) team format the teams will play each other in a round robin format to determine first, second and third  This link presents examples of both the four (4) and three (3) team pool format. The pool play will determine where a team will draw into the Championship Play. This will be explained in detail at the manager's meeting on Monday, 31 July 2006.

When will pool play start?
Ans.
Pool play is presently scheduled to start on Monday evening 31 July 2006 following the Parade of Teams.  If there are any three team pools, they will be scheduled to play on Monday night. A maximum of 10 games and a minimum of three games will be played on Monday evening. The exact number of games to be played on Monday evening will be determined by the number of participating teams in the tournament. All teams should be ready to play Monday evening since teams will not know date and time of their first pool game until after pool draw is completed at the manager's meeting on Monday morning 31 July 2006.

When and how will the gift exchange be conducted?
Ans.
For team participating in a four (4) team pool the gift exchange will occur prior to their first pool game. For all teams participating in a three (3) team pool the gift exchange for ALL teams will occur prior to the start of the first pool game. Note: The team that is NOT scheduled to play in the first game of a three (3) team pool will have player photo identification validated and player sign-in following the gift exchange.

How many gifts should a team bring for the gift exchange?
Ans.
Teams should plan on 16 player gifts since it's better to have too many than not enough. If a team has some gifts left over, offer them to the opposing team's manager and suggest the gifts be given to other youth that accompanied the team to the tournament.

What should the monetary limit be for each gift?
Ans.
The total cost for each player's gift should not exceed $12.00. This is a guideline and in may cases gifts cost more if purchased outright and much less if made by team members as a team project.

Does the Tournament Committee have any suggestions as to type of gift?
Ans.
This is a team decision and this answer should serve as a guideline. Ask your team players what they would like to receive as a gift to remember their experience of participating in a national tournament. Here are some suggestions: some unique idea that is representative of the tournament, team's home state, softball items and team related items. One unique idea that a team had was putting together scrapbooks that had a message from each player and coach including: a picture, information about the team, information about each player and a comment wishing the other team to have a safe and fun time at the tournament. Obviously this was a team project that involved all family members of the team. Just  remember that your team gifts should be something special that is representative of the event you're attending  When the final decision is made see if your team players would be happy receiving something similar as a gift.
