Frequently Asked Questions

 What are the requirements for a player signed photo identification?
Ans.
  ASA Code Article 501 ( A ) ( 07 ) ( a, b, and c ) addresses Player Identification and states the following:

"07. Player Identification.

          a. Providing Proper Identification

01. Upon demand by league or tournament officials, a player must produce proper identification ( which shall include a current photograph of the player and the player's signature ) or the player shall be declared ineligible and the team subject to disqualification. For the purpose of this section, driver's licenses or comparable identification is acceptable

02. At all National Championship Finals, in order to be eligible, a player must provide proper identification ( which shall include a current photograph of the player and the player's signature ) to the tournament director before the start of competition. The tournament director shall compare the identification with the name and signature appearing on the team's championship roster.

b. Proof of Age.  A player must provide proof of age in Junior Olympic, masters and senior divisions.

c. Local Association Photo / Identification Card.  If a photo ID card for a player is issued by the local ASA Commissioner and/or their designated Deputy, it will satisfy the required proof of age during ASA championship play. The card will include the date of birth and signature of the player and any other information required by the current ASA Code. The card will also include the signature ( or facsimile ) of the local ASA Commissioner and/or their designated Deputy to certify the date of birth and that proof of age is on file with the local ASA office. Other information on the card may include the player's ASA registration number and information on the ASA insurance coverage. A photo ID card with the above requirements and issued by the local ASA will satisfy the requirements of paragraph a, b and c above."

Teams that are using "Virtual Tournament Director" player identification cards are required to contact Per Tournament Planning Coordinator for additional instructions.

What will be the Tournament Committees method of validating player's signed photo identification? 
Ans. The Tournament committee will be adhering to the intent of ASA Code Article 501 (A) (07).

What will be acceptable for a player's signed photo identification? 
Ans.
The Tournament committee will be adhering to the intent of ASA Code Article 501 (A) (07).

When will the validation of player photo identification take place?
Ans.
The validation of player photo identification is a one time process and will take place prior to each team's first pool game. Exception: All teams that are playing in a three team pool will have their player photo identification validated prior to or after their pool's first game starts. The teams that are scheduled to play in the first pool game will have their player photo identification validated prior the game. Teams that are NOT scheduled to play in the first pool game will have their player photo identification validated following the gift exchange that will take place prior to the first pool game.

When will the player sign-in process take place?
Ans. The player sign-in process will take place during the player photo identification process.

How does player photo identification take place if a player is arriving late for the tournament? 
Ans.
  It will be the the team's managers responsibility to contact the Tournament Directors or their appointed tournament representatives to process all players through the player photo identification validation process prior to a player participating in the tournament. It is suggested that this be accomplished as soon as possible for late arriving players after they arrive in St. Louis, not just before the late arriving player's first game.
