Player Identification
Each member of a Junior Olympic team
competing at all ASA Championships must provide proper
identification to the tournament director before the start
of competition. This may be done on site at check-in. Proper
identification includes a current photo, player's signature
and proof of age. Acceptable age verification includes:
birth certificate, baptismal certificate, hospital
certificate, photo ID card issued by a local ASA
commissioner and/or their designee or a valid passport.
See ASA Code, Article 501 for
further explanation.
Coaches should have this information in the order of their
roster to help assist in the check-in process.
Player Sign In: Players
must sign-in prior to playing their first game in the
tournament on the Player Verification Sheet in front of the
Tournament Staff and present a photo of themselves and a
signature on the back of the photo or a Photo ID that has a
photo and signature of the player. Code Article 501A7
a 2. Page 250 of the ASA Code in the back of the ASA
Rule Book.
Gift Exchange
It is customary to have a gift
exchange between teams. This will occur one time, before the
first game you play in pool play. Each girl and two managers
will exchange with a designated team at opening ceremonies.
Please plan for 18 players and three managers. Suggestions
include food items, pins and/or t-shirts. Gifts should
not exceed $12.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Awards
Team awards to first, second third,
fourth and two fifth places; individual awards to the top
two teams. (based on 33-48 teams)
Format
Two pool play games and double
elimination is the standard format specified for ASA
Northern in 2007. Pool play begins Wednesday, August 1 at
2:00 p.m. and is scheduled to end Thursday night. Pool play
results determine placement in double elimination brackets.
Barring rain, the earliest a team could be eliminated from
the tournament is late Friday, August 3.
Playing Fields
The Burlington RecPlex (4 fields) 501 S. Broadway St. and
Southeast Community College Softball Field (1 field) located
at 1500 W. Agency Rd. in West Burlington will be used during
the running of this event. A
Map and directions to will be provided upon arrival.
Draw Procedure
Article 511 of the ASA Code
governs the draw. The pool play draw will be done in
advance of teams arriving and posted on the Web page no
later than Monday, July 30 at 5 p.m. The region with the
most teams will be drawn first and placed in pools away
from each other unless the teams in a region outnumber
the pools. Pool play results determine seeding and
placement into double elimination. The double
elimination draw is done at the conclusion of your pool
play.
Uniforms
All players competing at the Northern
shall properly wear uniforms that are alike in color, trim
and style. Short or long pants may be mixed. Coaches must be
neatly attired or dressed in team uniform in accordance with
the color code of the team. Please see the ASA official
playing rules (Rule 3, Section 6) for complete information.
Line Ups
Tournament officials will provide
line-up cards for each team. An official line up must be
submitted to the scorekeeper at least 15 minutes prior to
the game's scheduled start time.
Game Times
Please follow the times listed on the
tournament bracket. Game time is forfeit time. Teams should
be prepared to start a game once the preceding game is
completed. One hour and 40 minute time limit on pool play;
no time limit on double elimination.
Infield
Practice/Pre-Tournament Practice
No infield practice will be permitted.
Warm up is allowed in designated areas only. Teams may warm
up in the outfield grass if time permits. Warm up is allowed
in soccer field area is not permitted in the area between
225' temporary fences and 300' permanent fences. Teams
wishing to practice may reserve a practice field on Tuesday,
July 31st between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in one hour increments
by calling the
Burlington RecPlex Office at
319-758-9419.
Bench Area
Players, 3 coaches, scorekeeper and a
bat person are the only individuals allowed in the bench
area.
Protests
The tournament committee will decide
all protests. As manager, please be familiar with rules of
the game including proper protest procedures. See ASA
Playing Rule 9.
Run Rule
The 15-after-three-innings and
8-after-five-innings rule is in effect.
Rain Delay
In the event of rain or any cause
which interrupts a game, the game must be resumed at the
exact point where it was stopped. It is the manager's
responsibility to call the Rain-Out Hotline at
319-758-9320 or visit the information area for
rescheduled game information.
Team Seating
The team at the top of the bracket
will use the first base dugout. The team listed on the
bottom of the bracket will use the third base dugout.
Official Game Balls
The official balls for the tournament
are12 inch, optic yellow, 47COR, 375 Compression Dudley
SB12LRF-FP softballs.
Game Rules
All playing rules and regulations for
the tournament will be governed by the 2007 ASA Official
Guide and Rule Book.
Conduct
Managers and coaches are asked to have
complete control of their players, parents and supporting
spectators both on and off the field. The tournament
committee will deal with any report of damage by hotel
management. Spectators that become abusive or generally
vulgar to umpires, opposing players or fans will be handled
in a three-step process:

notification to the manager during a break in the
game
-
direct warning to the violator/s
-
suspension of the game and ejection of the
individual from the facility within a two-minute
time period
Eligibility
Player Passes
Player passes will be issued to
rostered players and three
coaches/managers. All participants must have a pass
to gain entrance to the softball complexes.
Participants without player passes will be required to pay
the daily admission price. The player passes and two
coaches/managers passes will be distributed at the team
check-in. We do not allow bat persons, scorekeepers or more
than three coaches/managers free admission. More coach's
passes may be purchased at the gate.
Souvenirs
Souvenirs will be available throughout
the weekend at the Burlington RecPlex.
Admission
Daily gate admission is $7/Adults,
$4/Youth/Seniors (17 years and younger/65 and Older); 5
years and under free
Tournament Passes
are $20/Adults, $10/Youth/Seniors (17 years and younger/65
and Older)
Coolers/Pets/Scooters/Rollerblades/Alcoholic Beverages
None of the above are permitted in our
fenced ball field area. Only team coolers are allowed; all
other coolers are checked at the gate.
