Get your youth softball questions answered
9/28/2009

Each week, we ask fans of Responsible Sports "What Would You Do?" in response to our weekly Responsible Sports Scenario Question. And many of you write in with scenario questions of your own! There are too many to get through them all with just one weekly scenario question. So we've asked Tina Syer, Associate Director at Positive Coaching Alliance, to answer one of your suggested questions each week.

Have you had an issue with a coach that you didn’t know how to handle? Is it difficult to approach your youth athlete about their on-the-ice performance? Join the Responsible Sports Dialog by suggesting a scenario question from your own youth sport experience. So far, Tina’s answered questions about commitment, intervention strategies, playing time, and team performance, parents coaching, preseason policies, and more!

For example, one question that came in from the Responsible Sports community was “A girl pitcher on my daughter’s team gets hit in the face and an ambulance is on its way. I suspect a shaved bat was used by the other team because one of their players tries to grab it, but I stop them. I yell to the umpire that we would like the bat checked, and a tug of war between the umpire and the coach ensued. Was I right to do this even though I am not a coach? They were busy with the player down. What do you do?” See Tina’s response. >>

What questions do you have? Visit The Responsible Sports Ask the Expert page to read past scenarios and while you’re there, enter a scenario question of your own!

The Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports TM program supports volunteer youth sports coaches and parents who help our children succeed both on and off the ice. We offer many youth sports resources including $2,500 community grants, instructional videos, weekly tips, peer and expert advice, and coursework for those interested in improving the youth sports experience for all involved.
