Canada defeats Great Britain 9-1

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.--- Canada defeated Great Britain, 9-1, closing out the game in five innings via the run ahead rule at the II World Cup of Softball presented by Frosted Flakes.

Erin McLean started the bottom of the first for Canada when she hit a double to left field. Alison Bradley singled to center field scoring McLean posting the first run on the board for Canada. Angela Lichty singled scoring two more to make the score 3-0. One more run would cross the plate as Katie Hnatyk singled scoring Lichty.

Canada came out in the bottom of the second with another offensive rally. Two walks and a hit by pitch helped start the rally and Lichty hit a double, clearing the bases, scoring three runs of just a single hit.

Two more would cross the plate for Canada in the bottom of the third when Hnatyk slammed a two run home run over the left field fence. Great Britain tried to fight back in the bottom of the fourth when Stacie Townsend hit a solo home run with two outs, resulting in the only hit of the game.

Great Britain will face China tomorrow July 17 at 1:00 p.m.
